Most gaming laptops are bulky and not very portable, but like many MSI laptops these days, the MSI GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro is a slim gaming laptop. Thanks to its powerful Core i7 processor and Nvidia Pascal video card, it’s more than capable of handling intensively.
PC games at high settings, while still being able to fit comfortably in your backpack. The 14-inch laptop weighs just over 3 pounds, which means it’s easy to take on the go. But how good is it in practice? We used it for a few weeks to find out.

The MSI GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro is among gaming laptops’ slimmest options. The 15.6-inch screen has a 3,840×2,160-pixel resolution (4K).
That’s standard in high-end gaming laptops but sharper than many mainstream laptop displays. IPS panels generally display colors more accurately and contrast better than non-IPS panels, like those on most $1,000 gaming laptops.

The MSI GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro isn’t just a well-built laptop—it’s a great gaming laptop, too.
Its powerful graphics card and processor provide smooth gameplay for most high-end games, making it one of our favorites among ultraportables. We also like its backlit keyboard and long battery life, though we wish its display were a bit brighter.
Performance MSI Gaming GS63
The MSI GS63VR 7RF Stealth Pro is a powerful gaming laptop, thanks to its Core i7 processor and Nvidia Pascal graphics card. I tested it with an Origin Neuron, and it’s one of the few laptops that can handle VR gaming without freezing or stuttering.
You should be able to play most games on high settings at 60 frames per second. But if you want to play on ultra-high settings at 120 fps, you might have to turn down some of your in-game details.
This isn’t ideal for playing games like Overwatch or Battlefield 1, but for less demanding titles like Rocket League or Minecraft, you shouldn’t have any problems.
If you’re looking for something more affordable (but still powerful), check out MSI’s GT73VR Titan Pro ($2,599). It has similar specs as the GS63VR but comes with a larger SSD and a 1080p screen instead of a 4K resolution.
Keyboard & Touchpad MSI Gaming GS63
The keyboard is one of my favorite aspects of MSI’s gaming laptops. The keys are made from plastic but feel great to press down thanks to their mechanical-like feedback.
It’s an ideal balance of sponginess and stiffness that results in a comfortable typing experience on your lap or at a desk. If you were hoping for RGB lighting on a $2,000 laptop, however, you might be disappointed: There aren’t any.
